We, the undersigned business owners, residents, employees, and customers in Uptown Kingston, wish to keep the Pike Plan in place. The Pike Plan is an asset to Uptown Kingston. The historic canopy creates a unique sense of place, distinguishing Uptown from other parts of the City, and allows customers to shop and stroll in all weather. Further, the canopy provides shade which helps minimize cooling costs and keep Uptown resilient in the face of climate change. We request that the Common Council immediately authorize funds for its repair and deny the Mayor’s request for a bond to finance the demolition of this historic canopy. The mayors request will destroy this iconic canopy.
